[D1 LA-LE] Investigation: The Three Sisters

Post by GhostWolfe » Sat Jan 11, 2020 8:04 am

Participants: Unlimited
Contracts: Allowed

In towns like Maize you couldn’t say that everyone knows everyone, but the gossip flows freely and the only concept the residents have of minding their own business pertains to outsiders. Outsiders like you. But one only needs to listen if they want to learn all about our Beth, their Mary, or what that Bobby got up to.

Investigations will follow the same format each time, please refer to the Investigation Rules here.

Roll Presence + (Empathy or Socialise or Streetwise).

8 Successes are required to uncover the Clue for this Investigation.
For each participant with 4+ dots in the Skill they used, gain an Element.
For each participant that used an appropriate Specialty, gain an Element.
For every 5 Successes beyond that needed to uncover the Clue, gain an Element.

Early Evening

Motel rooms were never comforting and the one is Maize was not going to be an exception. She much as she could spend the evening binging on TV in her 'Luxury' room, as she imagined what the locals must do to pass the time, she had to breathe and get away from her room. Venturing back outside, she caught some semblance of traffic as the day was winding down and people were going home for the day.

She sauntered up to the Scratch Bar to catch the locals at their watering hole. A part of her almost imagined she was actually going to see some horses and a trough here. There were easily eyes on her when she entered. She wanted to include herself in their circle but she felt cautious. Ordering a beer for herself before someone could think about getting her a drink, she hung around the bar and the pool tables loosely. There were talks about the daily fuckups and making ends meet, grumblings and gripes. As the evening dragged on, they would eventually get to the meat of the conversation and Imogen was all ears to catch the details.

Early Evening

Even with being more of a smooth Talker than a powerful personality, Penn was electric as they worked the room of the Scratch Bar, he used his brightness, that way to call attention that his Keeper had burned into him in that Carnival of Terror in the Hedge.

Still, as they worked the room, they could just get people to open up to him, and maybe say more than they meant.

Collaborator

Jean did not really have the money to drink, but he had enough spare change to get a beer - and spend an hour or two at the bar counter, sipping at the all too clear drink while listening to the locals. Sometimes you only needed to listen and people would talk, especially if they had taken a drink too many.

Of all the gin joints in all the world, I had to walk into this one. I had hoped to learn a bit more about Maize, bending elbows with the locals. No one seemed interesting in a chat, though, at least not with me.

There were too many pretty people about.

Reina was underage, and wouldn't drink if she wasn't - dulled the senses. It was like asking to be eaten. However, she could sit outside and chat with those who came outside. All she had to do was play the naive bunny, all big eyes and nodding at the right times as she listened to their problems. The residents came away thinking she was such a nice young lady. She came away with information and considering the idea that humans weren't that much harder to relate to than other beings.

Clue: On paper, the residents of Maize are primarily Roman Catholic or Protestant, but there are traditions older than the arrival of Christianity, traditions in the soil, taught by the native inhabitants of the land. The farmers of Maize are traditional and superstitious. In their hearts, many still hold some veneration for the Three Sisters: Corn, Pumpkin, and the Green Bean.

Further Investigations: Research skills such as Academics or Occult, or contacts in these fields, may reveal more information.
